Welcome to the Professional Competency
Continuum On-Line Assessment Tool
This tool has been designed to
provide educators with an opportunity to assess their current skills and
knowledge level within the technology integration categories described in the
continuum. The PCC Assessment Site sponsors a tool designed for administrators
and a tool designed for classroom educators.
The administrator tool provides a
profile of skills and knowledge in three categories: (1) Core Technology Skills,
(2) Professional Practice, and (3) Administrator Competency.
The classroom
educator tool provides a profile of skills and knowledge in 4 categories: (1)
Core Technology Skills, (2) Curriculum, Learning, and Assessment, (3) Classroom
and Instructional Management, and (4) Professional Practice.
Within each of the 5
possible categories, there are more specific competency areas.
- Core Technology Skills includes skills in the following sub-areas (a)
hardware/computer, (b) hardware/other, (c) applications, (d) information tools,
(e) network tools, and (f) multimedia/presentation tools.
- Curriculum,
Learning, and Assessment includes skills in the following sub-areas: (a)
curriculum, (b) teaching/learning strategies, (c) new roles for educators, (d)
new roles for students, and (e) assessment.
- Professional Practice includes
skills in the following sub-areas: (a) technology for professional productivity,
(b) collaborations, (c) communications, (d) professional resources, and (e)
resource acquisition.
- Classroom and Instructional Management includes skills
in the following sub-areas: (a) organization and use, (b) access and location,
and (c) instructional management.
After completing the profile questions for a category, a bar graph will be
displayed that indicated your current skill level in that category. Skill
levels fall on the continuum from Entry to Adaptation to Transformation. Results
will range from 1 - 10 with 1 being low Entry level and 10 being high
Transformation level.
- Entry - (result 1-3) - The educator is
aware of the possibilities that technology may hold within the area assessed,
but she currently lack the training, access to technology, or opportunity to
exhibit skill in this area.
- Adaptation — Adaptation (result 4-7) -
The educators is somewhat skilled in this area, and the use technology is
primarily in support of the same type of learning activities that were present
before the technology arrived.
- Transformation — (result 8-10) - The educator
is very skilled and sometimes serves as a resource to others. Technology has
become a catalyst for significant changes in the learning environment.
